Introduction to Gallaway Cook Allan

Gallaway Cook Allan is a large Otago-based full-service law firm with offices in Dunedin and Wānaka. We act for commercial businesses, private clients, and local and regional government, across the South Island, nationally and internationally.

We are a cohesive team with a culture that allows each individual to bring their best self to work. We want every member of our team to enjoy their time at work, enjoy their colleagues and work together to provide the best possible service for our clients.

Our clients tell us that they trust our ability to get to the point of a matter and then to provide advice that is practical, solution-oriented and represents value-for-money.  Our staff tell us that our culture sets us apart.  We are collaborative, approachable, open to different ways of working, and we value and trust each other to do the right thing – why not find out for yourself?

Doing the right thing for each other, our community and the environment is a core part of who we are.  Our impact strategy is built on three pillars: community, environment, and team and includes actions in areas such as accessibility, pro-bono, community sponsorship and partnerships, sustainability and emissions reduction, wellbeing and of course, a welcoming environment for everyone.

About this role

This senior role offers a consistent flow of engaging and varied private client work.  The work includes working together with individuals, couples, and families to structure their personal affairs and advising clients on all aspects relating to asset planning.  In this role, you will build connections by working collaboratively with our clients and colleagues to achieve practical outcomes.

Your work will include the preparation and drafting of wills, advising on and certifying Enduring Powers of Attorney, and developing comprehensive estate and succession planning strategies.  You will play a key role in estate planning, trust administration and help our clients and their families navigate complex and sensitive decisions.

Working alongside Devon Miller and a cohesive, supportive, and high-performing team, you will also provide guidance to junior lawyers, supporting their development and contributing to the ongoing strength of our firm.

About you

To succeed with us, you will either specialise in this space currently, or have a broader practice with the desire to develop your career within the Private Clients Team.  You will be someone who can communicate confidently, relate well with others and engage effectively with a range of clients, colleagues and the wider business community.   You will enjoy contributing to a team whilst still working autonomously and taking responsibility for your own work and deadlines.
